Rimless Try-On: Every Lens Shape, on Your Shopper's Face

Rimless is the one category where the lens shape is genuinely a choice. Until now, online shoppers only ever got to see one of them.

A rimless mount takes every lens shape its mounting system allows — usually a dozen or more. The same bridge and temples can wear a soft rectangle, an oval, a round or a teardrop. For the shopper, that is the whole appeal of rimless: the shape is theirs to choose.

Online, that choice disappears.

Why shoppers only ever see one shape

Two things stand between your shape library and your shopper:

  • The demo lens decides. Product photos exist for one shape only: whichever one you happened to have a demo lens for on the day you shot the catalogue.
  • The rest were never made. A shape nobody has manufactured has nothing to photograph. Most of a shape library sits here: real, cuttable, and completely unseen.

One shape is for sale. The rest of the library exists, and never reaches the shopper.

So the shopper buys the demo lens shape. Not because it suits their face, but because no other shape was ever on the table.

Introducing GlassOn Rimless

GlassOn Rimless turns your lens shapes into data, then puts every one of them on your shopper's face. It takes three steps.

1. Build the mount. Three photos per mount — front, left and right — plus two measurements: bridge and temple length.

2. Send your lens shape library. Send each shape however you already hold it. Best is the OMA file your tracer or your frame supplier already produces: it carries the outline in millimetres and says which eye it is. An SVG or a plain black silhouette on white works too; just tell us the eye size. No CAD, no engineering files, and no drill-hole data — the holes belong to the mount, not the shape.

3. Your shopper tries it on. The try-on runs in the browser on phone and desktop, with nothing to install. Shoppers can:

  • Mix and match each mount with every shape it accepts from your library
  • Try it on their own face and rotate through every angle
  • Measure, enter the measurements, and adjust for fit
  • Compare two or three options side by side, then decide

The shopper picks a mount, then a shape, and sees the pair on their own face.

What stays exactly the same

GlassOn stops at the try-on. Ordering, lens manufacturing and fitting stay exactly as they are today. The shopper's prescription, their measured PD and the fitting height never reach us, and where the shape sits on the blank stays with your lab.

What you get back is the pair they picked: mount, shape and eye size. You order it exactly the way you order today.

Why it matters

A rimless catalogue online has always been limited to the shapes someone happened to photograph. With GlassOn Rimless, every shape a mount accepts can reach the shopper — including the ones that have never been manufactured — and the shopper chooses the shape that suits their face, not the one that happened to be on the demo lens.

Next step

Send us one mount and a few lens shapes.

Three photos for the mount, a few flat drawings for the shapes. We will build it and send back a try-on link running on your own product, so you can see it before deciding anything. Pricing is quoted per project, based on how many mounts and lens shapes you have.
